Abstract
Value stream mapping (VSM) is a tool for enhancing operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness that can be traced back to the Toyota Production System (TPS) lean manufacturing. VSM emerged as a visualization tool for the organization's processes and operations, providing a clear image of the present position of the organization and the areas that required improvement. This study explores how VSM enhances operational efficiency and reduces organizational production costs. This study utilized the standard systematic literature review method in which 20 papers from different databases were to provide information concerning the effectiveness of VSM in enhancing operational efficiency and reducing production costs. The systematic literature review showed that VSP was a well-structured tool for enhancing operational efficiency and reducing production costs in an organization as it visualized the current state of the organization and helped in the identification of the areas that were cost-ineffective and increased the production and operational costs and needed to be improved. Value stream mapping is a critical improvement and visualization tool in an organization that helps to enhance continuous improvement, operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, lean processes, and waste reduction.
