Exploring experiences of Saudi military personnel and their family dynamics.

Abstract

Posttraumatic stress disorder is a psychiatric disorder that appears in individuals who have encountered or witnessed a traumatic occasion such as a natural disaster, a serious accident, a terrorist act, war/combat, rape, threatened death, sexual violence, or serious injury. ​It is also discovered that long-term factors such as family environment severely impact one's prognosis treatment. Spouses, who are typically the primary caregivers, are exposed to components of the victims’ traumatic experience, as well as enduring the burden of caring for the trauma victim and the family, a burden worsened by the decrease in the victim’s familial functioning and worry for their spouse’s emotional and physical state. In this research, the sample would be volunteer sampling with Saudi army veterans, active members, and their family members. They will be assessed with semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis. Results indicated that the themes presented patterns of strong familial connection which resulted in strong mental health and resilience.
