Abstract
Social anxiety disorder (SAD) can prevent people from achieving their goals, forming relationships, and achieving academic success. The main question this research addresses is what are the effects of SAD among teenagers regarding goal achievement? Previous studies have shown that SAD affects certain aspects of a person’s life, such as the ability to communicate with unfamiliar people. This topic was chosen in order to gather information for inspiration and accuracy for the author’s future animated films. I conducted a mixed-approach review of the literature on the topic and observed films with similar themes to social anxiety. The findings suggest that if a person with SAD continues to have negative beliefs and indulge in avoidance and safety behaviors the disorder will persist, and as a result, the socially anxious are less satisfied with their lives than those without social anxiety. The significance of the study is to enlighten readers and raise awareness about mental disorders, improve some people’s negative perceptions, mention treatment methods, and supply filmmakers with reliable information on the disorder and possibly give them new ideas for their upcoming films.
