Abstract
New opportunities and challenges for TMS shall be created with the ever-evolving pace
of AV technology development that will change the logistics and transportation sectors beyond
recognition. This thesis elaborates on various implications to road freight brought to bear by the
integration of AVs, bringing about operational efficiency, cost savings, and methods of
enhancing the delivery process.
From a detailed and systematic literature review using 15 academic articles between the years
2015 to 2025, it was possible to identify major themes concerning the adoption of AVs with
respect to such topics as operational efficiency, cost savings, and barriers to implementation. Key
findings suggest that AVs will minimize human-mediated errors, enable round-the-clock
operations, and offer real-time data for enhanced route optimization. These transitions come with
their challenges. Issues like regulatory uncertainty, public safety concerns, and workforce
resistance need to be treated as substantial issues in the domain of management and industry to
realize the potential benefits associated with AV integration fully.
