Abstract
In a world increasingly defined by smart living and sustainable design, kitchens have remained one of the
most under-optimized spaces in the modern home. This thesis explores the development of a
multifunctional smart kitchen island that addresses the widespread issue of disorganization, particularly in
storing pots, pans, and cooking essentials. Through in-depth user and market research, the study identifies
critical gaps in the current kitchen appliance market and responds with an innovative solution that merges
technology, sustainability, and user-centered design.
The resulting product, a futuristic kitchen island, integrates smart cooking functionalities, intuitive storage
solutions, and a built-in hydroponic gardening system. Designed with the user experience in mind, the
island features a touchscreen interface, electromechanical stove controls, an efficient quick-rinse
mechanism, and a circular water reuse system that supports the garden module. The project followed a
rigorous design process that included concept development, prototyping (both low- and high-fidelity),
CAD modeling and 3D printing.
