Abstract
As businesses face growing pressure to align their strategies with environmental and social responsibilities, adopting sustainable practices has become imperative. In this context, this study explores the adoption of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) practices in the food manufacturing sector of Saudi Arabia. Anchored in the framework of Vision 2030, which seeks to harmonize economic diversification with sustainability, this research investigates the current practices, challenges, and future goals of two national manufacturing companies. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this study integrates quantitative and qualitative data collected through structured questionnaires to shed light on the delicate balancing act between integrating sustainable practices and maintaining efficiency in a highly competitive market. Findings reveal a growing, albeit uneven, commitment to sustainability, with companies prioritizing internal environmental practices but lagging in supplier collaboration and logistical sustainability. The study highlights the transformative potential of SSCM in reducing costs, enhancing brand reputation, and meeting consumer demand for eco-friendly products. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, resistance to change, and a lack of standardized metrics underscore the need for a more comprehensive and collaborative approach. By addressing these gaps, this research provides actionable insights for policymakers and industry leaders aiming to foster a sustainable and efficient manufacturing ecosystem in Saudi Arabia.
