Abstract
To interpret family dynamics, it is vital to understand the different possible attachment styles that impact a child’s behavior. Children’s attachment styles are a matter of their parents’ emotional and physical availability, and the importance of an available father is directly highlighted with the correlation to positive cognitive development in daughters. This paper studies the impact of fathers on their daughter’s attachment style and development, with a magnification on Arab immigrant fathers. An analysis done on six films portraying father-daughter relationships highlighted the connection between a father’s emotional availability and the daughter’s attachment style, it also concluded that immigration could play a significant role in changing a child’s attachment style. A survey with a sample size of 29 respondents was analyzed to connect Arab father-daughter actions and communication with certain attachment styles, concluding that Arab traditions and coping mechanisms affect father and daughter relationships.
