Abstract
This research provides an overview of the design of an opera house in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project will seek to weave the traditional Saudi Arabian cultural elements with a contemporary architectural principle to create a diverse yet culturally related space for community engagement and creative expression. This project aims to redefine the purpose of an opera house by integrating the building with the public realm. As an extension of the iconic Jeddah Waterfront development, the opera house will be woven into its surroundings, creating an interactive democratic space for all to enjoy. The aim of the project is to create a space that is not only a cultural hub but also a place for the community to gather and enjoy. In addition to the performances that will occur within the building, the outdoor space will be a community space where countless activities can be hosted for the public to enjoy. The research consists of five chapters starting with an introduction that emphasizes the historical importance of opera houses, followed by a case study on Zaha Hadid's Guangzhou Opera House. The third chapter focuses on the meticulous site selection process, including the assessment of different areas and site options based on specific criteria. The fourth chapter is the project program chapter, which outlines the opera house project program, that has been shaped by the information gathered from the preceding chapters and architectural resources. Finally, the fifth and final chapter consists of the final project outcome and its deliverables.
