Abstract
This research explores the potential of temporary urbanism as a sustainable and dynamic strategy to enhance city identity. Temporary urbanism refers to the transient use of urban space to host various activities, events, and installations that reflect and contribute to the cultural and social fabric of a city. The core aim of this study is to examine how temporary interventions in urban spaces can reinforce the unique character of a city while promoting community engagement and economic vitality. We investigate a range of temporary urbanism initiatives, from pop-up parks to temporary art installations and street festivals, to understand their impact on residents' perception of city identity and their role in shaping a city's image and sense of place. As we explores the potential of temporary urbanism to enhance city identity, using Jeddah Saudi Arabia, as a case study to examine the impact of such interventions in a rapidly developing urban context with a rich cultural heritage.by collecting qualitative data through interviews and surveys, the research identifies key factors that contribute to the success of temporary urbanism projects in fortifying city identity. The findings offer insights into the ways temporary urbanism serves as an inclusive, flexible, and cost-effective approach for urban planners and policymakers to revitalize cities and foster a strong sense of identity among inhabitants and visitors alike. The study ultimately provides a framework for cities to implement temporary urbanism in a manner that respects and accentuates their unique urban identity, aligning with both the short-term needs and long-term visions of urban development.
